Is our work used to train AI models?
No. Homework text, photos and coach conversations are not used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s.
Who is the AI provider?
Google’s Gemini models process the text of a coaching request, called from our own server rather than from the app. The request carries no nickname and no account identifier, so the provider cannot tell one student from another. The key lives on the server and never ships in the app.
How long is anything kept?
- Homework tasks and photos: until the student deletes them, or deletes their account.
- Voice notes: the audio is turned into text and discarded within the same request. It is never stored.
- Coach conversations: held in the session on the device and not stored on our servers after it ends.
- Push subscriptions: until reminders are switched off or the account is deleted.
Can a student delete everything?
Yes, from Settings, in one tap, without asking anyone. Tasks, photos, saved materials, reminders and the account itself go together. There is also a page explaining exactly what happens.
Can parents or teachers read the conversations?
Not today. When parent view arrives it will show exactly what the student sees, with the student told what is shared. Nothing will be visible to a parent and hidden from the student.
What about unsafe or inappropriate requests?
The coach declines anything that is not schoolwork appropriate for a 13-year-old, without lecturing, and steers back to the task. If a saved task is itself harmful, it refuses to coach it at all and asks for a different piece of homework. If a student sounds distressed, it stops teaching and points to a trusted adult and Childline on 0800 1111.
Are there adverts?
None, and none planned. No adverts, no ad tracking, no data sold or shared with brokers.
Where is the data?
In the London region, on Supabase. Each student’s rows and photos are isolated by the database itself, so one account cannot read another even if the app is misused.
A full privacy notice and a data protection impact assessment are being finalised with a solicitor before the beta opens beyond invited families. This page is the plain-English version and it is accurate today.
